About the Traffic Commander
Hi! I’m Traffic Commander Jacob Cartez, the 01 and Head of the Traffic Division within CSSO. I joined the Traffic Division on June 24, 2023, and quickly climbed the ranks. By July 26, 2024, I achieved the 03 rank, and after just a month in Traffic, I was honored to take on the 01 position.
Throughout my time leading Traffic, I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible deputies and fellow leaders who have made the division stronger. Along the way, I’ve built lasting friendships and created unforgettable memories while serving CSSO. It’s these experiences and connections that drive me to continue serving as the 01 of Traffic, ensuring the well-being and success of our team.

Motor Unit (M.U.):
The Motor Unit operates as an auxiliary unit within Traffic. It specializes in handling high-risk pursuits involving motorcycles, especially in 10-80 situations where standard vehicles would face greater danger. Additionally, Motor Unit officers are trained to fire from their bikes in scenarios where it’s too risky for others to engage.
Port Authority (P.A.):
The Port Authority focuses on intercepting criminal activities involving the smuggling or importing of drugs and other illegal substances across state lines. Officers monitor cargo at ports to ensure compliance and respond to distress calls or emergencies when required.
Dive Team (D.T.):
The Dive Team provides specialized support in underwater operations. This includes locating objects lost at sea, assisting other units, and aiding in the capture of criminals in aquatic environments.
Air Support Unit (A.S.U.):
The Air Support Unit is deployed when ground units need assistance in pursuits or investigations. ASU provides aerial surveillance, allowing officers to maintain focus on their driving without risking accidents. They are also instrumental in locating suspects who are evading capture on the ground.
A.S.U. Advanced:
ASU Advanced operates similarly to the standard ASU but with added capabilities. This includes flying closer to the ground for tactical operations and assisting in rescue missions, such as locating missing persons or providing aid in disaster situations.
Bicycle Unit (B.C.U.):
The Bicycle Unit is certified to handle pursuits on foot where a suspect is too fast for an officer but too slow for a vehicle pursuit. They are also effective in patrolling urban or county areas, ensuring civilians follow laws whether on foot or other non-motorized modes of transport.
Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (H.E.A.T.):
The HEAT unit specializes in handling high-speed pursuits on highways, focusing on ensuring public safety while maintaining close pursuit of fleeing suspects. Their primary goal is to prevent harm to bystanders and bring dangerous drivers to justice.
Dirt Unit (D.U.):
The Dirt Unit specializes in off-road operations, targeting suspects who flee onto terrain unsuitable for regular patrol vehicles. This unit utilizes off-road trucks, dirt bikes, and other specialized vehicles to pursue and apprehend criminals in rugged environments.
Checkpoint Command:
Checkpoint Command ensures the smooth operation of traffic checkpoints. They manage the flow of traffic, maintain order, and oversee officers to ensure all protocols are followed effectively and efficiently.
Street Racing:
This certification enables officers to infiltrate and dismantle illegal street racing operations. Officers often go undercover to gain intelligence and make arrests, targeting offenders and enhancing road safety.
Commercial Vehicle Enforcement:
This unit focuses on inspecting commercial vehicles to ensure they are not transporting illegal substances or tampered cargo. Officers also verify compliance with legal routes and transportation laws.
Accident Reconstruction:
This certification trains officers to investigate the causes of vehicle accidents, identifying factors such as drunk driving or mechanical failures. They also ensure roadways are cleared of debris and restored to normal conditions following an accident.
